Groundbreaking on New Facility

On Sept. 16, PBTISD broke ground on their new Maintenance | Child Nutrition | Technology | DAEP Campus Facility as the first construction project from the 2021 bond.

Over the past several months, VLK Architects has been working with the District on the design and development of the facility, and BTC was hired by the District as the Construction Manager at Risk. The new facility is located on the north side of Pecos on the site that used to house Lamar Elementary.

“There have been several key ‘steps’ to get to this point,” said Superintendent Brent Jaco. “The development of this facility has been in the works for almost a year. Breaking ground on this facility is truly an exciting step in fulfilling the plans outlined in the 2021 bond. We couldn’t be more excited to begin work and get our support staff this much-needed state-of-the-art facility!”

The facility will house three PBTISD departments: maintenance, child nutrition, and technology. It will also be the new campus for DAEP, the District’s alternative school program.

"VLK is excited to partner with PBT ISD and BTC to kick off their 2021 Bond Program with this new facility. We understand what this bond program means to the district and their community. We are fortunate to be involved from the start and look forward to working with them on future projects," said Monika Castillo, AIA, Principal of VLK Architects.

The facility will include two warehouse spaces for Child Nutrition and Maintenance, an elevated loading dock, storage space for Technology equipment, a repair and carpentry shop, and a test kitchen for Child Nutrition for trying new food options.

“BTC is very excited to begin the work on the first of many projects with PBTISD,” said Joel Martin Vice President, Estimating and Contracts

This project is scheduled to be completed in August 2022 and is currently more than $750,000 under budget.
