The Pecos High School Varsity Boys Cross Country team earned the team champion title at the Crane Invitational, placing five runners inside the top 26 of a 100-runner field.
Cody Saldana led the charge with a 7th-place finish in 17:19.60, and Mauricio Villescas followed close behind in 9th at 17:24.90. Jayden Hernandez (13th, 17:43.70), Ronaldo Zaleta (19th, 18:01.40), and Jaiden Juarez (26th, 18:32.10) rounded out the scoring to secure the championship.
In the JV division, Kian Aguilar stood out with a 3rd-place finish in 19:26.40, while teammates Abdiel Ruvalcaba (24th, 22:28.00) and Caleb Sandavol (38th, 24:27.40) added strong performances.
For the Varsity Girls, Machinzee Crum (53rd, 17:59.70) led the way, followed by Sarah Martinez (58th, 18:16.00), Elliana Urteaga (68th, 19:00.70), Ariel Chavez (78th, 19:53.00), and Jaklynn Jacobs (81st, 19:59.50).
The middle school teams gained valuable racing experience, with boys’ results from Etha Sotelo (98th, 19:44.50), Ander Mendoza (101st, 20:03.80), and Leonidas Rodriguez (110th, 23:26.80), and girls’ results from Mackenna Crum (75th, 19:45.70), Alyssa Hernandez (83rd, 20:26.40), Brynn Sparkman (101st, 24:30.40), and Kailyn Lozano (102nd, 24:41.60).
The Varsity Boys’ championship highlighted a full day of racing for Eagle Cross Country and marked another step forward for the program this season.
