Pecos High School hosted its final Pecos Invitational inside the PHS Natatorium on Saturday, closing out decades of competition in the facility as the program prepares to move into the new Coach Terri Morse Aquatic Center next season.

The meet featured a competitive lineup, including 6A programs and teams from across New Mexico. For Pecos, the invitational served as an important checkpoint before the upcoming State Preview Meet in San Antonio.

Head Coach Jessica Minjarez, joined by Assistant Coach EJ Vasquez, said the meet came at the right moment in the season.

“The goal this weekend was to start cutting time so we can go into San Antonio with season-best swims. Racing against 6A and New Mexico teams always brings strong competition, and our swimmers stepped up. Both teams looked good in the water, and this meet gives us momentum heading into the State Preview.”

During the meet, seniors Siena Patino and Hugo Jasso were recognized for their contributions to the program. Retired coach Joan Capshaw was also in attendance, continuing her long tradition of supporting Pecos Swimming.

With the invitational complete, the team now turns its focus to the State Preview Meet as championship season approaches.
