Selected by their coaches and voted on by peers and staff, these students represent Pecos High School through their commitment, accountability, and dedication to their teams.
Azerlynn Perez β Girls Basketball, Senior
For Azerlynn Perez, being named Athlete of the Month reflects the work she puts in daily.
βBeing selected as Athlete of the Month means my hard work is paying off and makes me want to become even better every day,β Perez said.

She says her motivation comes from her love for the game and the discipline it requires.
βMy love for the game pushes me to give my 100% in practice and games. It helps me be more disciplined and accountable for my future.β
Perez defines leadership as accountability paired with composure.
βI would define leadership as holding myself and my teammates accountable in ways that are supportive and not in a negative way,β she said. βStaying composed under pressure through tough moments has helped me become a stronger person in and out of sports.β
Her favorite moments this season have come from time spent with her teammates during practices and tournaments.
βI will always cherish these memories for a lifetime,β she said.
Perez credits her sisters as her biggest inspiration, noting their time playing under Coach Forrest at Pecos High School.
βThey have shown me what dedication and resilience looks like,β she said.
Her advice to younger Eagles:
βAlways believe in yourself and trust the process. Never be afraid of mistakes and always play for the love of the game.β

Alejandro Carrasco β Boys Basketball, Senior
Alejandro Carrasco says being named Athlete of the Month is meaningful because it reflects the results of consistent effort.
βIt means a lot to me,β Carrasco said. βIt shows what happens when you put in hard work and are able to reap the benefits.β

Carrasco says his motivation comes from his teammates.
βWhat motivates me to give my best effort every day is wanting to give it all to my teammates,β he said. βOur squad is truly a special one.β
He defines leadership as setting an example in all areas.
βItβs about motivating the people around you, holding yourself accountable, and showing dedication to both your sport and academics,β Carrasco said.
One of his favorite moments this season came during a tournament game against Buena Vista in Wink.
βThat was the game where everything came together,β he said. βWe found our chemistry and started playing our style of basketball.β
Carrasco credits his parents and his faith for supporting him throughout his journey.
βThrough the highs and the lows, I just worked hard and stayed faithful,β he said.
His advice to younger Eagles:
βDonβt let anyone tell you that you donβt deserve what you want. If you want it, go get it.β
