The Pecos High School swim teams turned in an impressive showing at the Region 1-4A Championship, with both the boys and girls squads competing against deep fields and qualifying multiple events for the UIL State Meet.
After advancing every event into championship finals during Friday’s prelims, the underclassmen-heavy roster featuring only two seniors powered the boys team to a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams. The girls followed with a strong sixth-place finish among 21 competing teams, highlighting the depth and momentum of the program.
Pecos secured state qualifications in three relay events: the Boys’ 200-yard medley relay, the Girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay, and the Boys’ 400-yard freestyle relay. Individually, junior Lorelyn Lopez earned a trip to state in the 100-yard freestyle, continuing a standout postseason run.
“These results reflect how hard our athletes have worked all season,” said Head Swim & Dive Coach J. Minjarez. “With a roster built largely of underclassmen, qualifying multiple relays and an individual for state speaks to the future of this program.”
Several swimmers contributed points and podium-level performances throughout the meet, helping Pecos remain competitive across all sessions. The experience gained at regionals positions the Eagles well as they prepare to compete on the state stage.
