PECOS, TX β€” Selected by their coaches and voted on by peers and staff, these students represent Pecos High School through their commitment, accountability, and dedication to their teams.

Carysa Campos – Softball, Sophomore

For Carysa Campos, being named Athlete of the Month reflects the work she puts into both athletics and academics.

β€œBeing selected as Athlete of the Month shows to me that the work I put in doesn’t go unnoticed,” Campos said. β€œNot only the work I put into my sport, but also what I put into the classroom. It means a lot to see my dedication to both my team and my grades pay off in such a way.”

Campos says her motivation comes from the people who support her and the opportunities she has been given.

β€œI have the drive to give my best effort every day to appreciate the sacrifices my parents and coaches have made,” she said. β€œI realize that my talent is a blessing from God, and every practice and game is an opportunity to use those talents to the fullest.”

She defines leadership as setting the standard for both effort and integrity.

β€œYou have to be able to set the standard for effort and integrity,” Campos said. β€œLeadership isn’t just a one-person thing. When you have a team of leaders, it makes the group stronger.”

Some of her favorite memories this season come from time spent with teammates and sharing the field with her sister during her senior year.

β€œMy sister and I have grown up and bonded over this sport,” she said. β€œBeing able to play with her this season means a lot to me.”

Campos credits her parents as her biggest supporters, noting the extra time they have spent helping her improve.

β€œMy dad constantly pushes me to outwork who I was yesterday,” she said. β€œI couldn’t be more grateful for the sacrifices they’ve made to help me chase my dreams.”

Her advice to younger Eagles focuses on preparation and confidence.

β€œTrust the process, trust yourself, and let your game speak for itself,” Campos said.

Pregame ritual: Taking time to thank God before each game.

Campos also shared a message for Eagle Nation:

β€œCome out and support the Lady Eagle Softball team as we start district March 13.”

Jesus Dominguez – Soccer, Senior

Senior Jesus Dominguez says being named Athlete of the Month is a reminder that his dedication is making an impact.

Jesus

β€œBeing selected as Athlete of the Month brings me self-confidence, which means that my dedication is being noticed,” Dominguez said.

His motivation comes from the passion he has for both his team and the sport.

β€œPassion and love for this sport and my team is what pushes me to give my best every day,” he said.

Dominguez defines leadership through encouragement and teamwork.

β€œLeadership is about encouraging others around me,” he said. β€œIt’s about teamwork, not self-achievement.”

One of his most meaningful moments this season came on senior night.

β€œMy favorite moment was my senior night because my entire family came to celebrate with me,” Dominguez said. β€œThat night brought me all the memories from my freshman year up until now.”

He credits Coach Padilla and his mother for supporting him throughout his career.

β€œThey have been pushing me through every game and every injury since my freshman year,” he said.

His advice to younger Eagles centers on mindset.

β€œMaintain positivity,” Dominguez said. β€œHaving a strong mindset allows you to stay emotionally controlled and calm at all times.”

Pregame ritual: A prayer before every game.

Dominguez also shared a reminder for younger athletes:

β€œPrioritize enjoyment of the sport and never neglect education.”
