Pecos Cross Country Opens 2026 Season at West of the Pecos Invitational

PECOS, Texas β€” Pecos Cross Country opened its 2026 season at home as the Eagles and Lady Eagles welcomed runners from across West Texas to Maxey Park for the West of the Pecos Invitational.

Pecos competed across four divisions with several Eagles and Lady Eagles finishing near the front of the field, including three top-10 finishes.

Ronaldo Zaleta led the Pecos varsity boys with a fifth-place finish, completing the course in 17:09.29. Aiden Barragan followed with a 10th-place finish at 17:50.97.

Jaiden Juarez placed 13th in 18:17.41, Cody Saldana finished 19th in 18:54.71 and Abdiel Ruvalcaba crossed in 23rd at 19:14.72.

In the varsity girls race, Machinzee Crum represented Pecos with a 19th-place finish and a time of 17:58.86.

The Lady Eagles also turned in a strong showing in the JV girls race, placing two runners inside the top five and three inside the top 10.

Alyssa Hernadez led Pecos in fourth place with a time of 17:46.39, followed closely by Sarah Martinez in fifth at 17:52.08. Brynn Sparkman finished 10th in 19:30.98.

Mackenna Crum placed 11th at 20:29.50, Kailyn Lozano finished 12th at 20:54.85 and Elli Urteaga placed 13th with a time of 22:08.22.

Judah Mouser represented Pecos in the JV boys race, finishing 13th with a time of 23:39.35.

The West of the Pecos Invitational brought runners from Alpine, Buena Vista, Crane, Fort Stockton, Grandfalls-Royalty, Kermit, Marfa, Monahans, Pampa, Pecos, TLCA and Wink to Maxey Park for the season-opening competition.

With the first meet complete, Pecos now turns its attention to the miles ahead as the Eagles and Lady Eagles continue through the 2026 cross country season.
