Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD is proud to announce that Pecos High School Assistant Principal William Phillips has been named the Region 18 High School Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
The annual recognition honors outstanding secondary school administrators for their leadership, commitment to students and contributions to their school communities. Phillips' selection continues a tradition of leadership excellence within PBTISD and highlights the work taking place each day at Pecos High School.
Phillips has served in education for 12 years, including the past five years with PBTISD. Throughout his time in the district, he has remained focused on supporting students and staff while helping create a campus culture centered on growth, relationships and high expectations.
“I’m truly honored to be named Region 18 High School Assistant Principal of the Year,” Phillips said. “I’m grateful to serve alongside incredible educators, students, and families every day. This recognition reflects the people who have invested in me and the values that guide my life: faith, family, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Thank you to Region 18 for this honor. I’m excited to keep serving and growing with this amazing profession.”
Pecos High School Principal Chantel Hluchan said Phillips' recognition reflects the leadership and commitment he brings to the campus each day.
“Mr. Phillips is a leader who genuinely cares about people and approaches his work with purpose,” Hluchan said. “He builds meaningful relationships with our students and staff, leads by example and is always looking for ways to grow as an educator and administrator. His commitment to Pecos High School and the success of our students is evident in everything he does. We are incredibly proud to see him receive this recognition from his peers across Region 18.”
Phillips' recognition also marks the second consecutive year a PBTISD assistant principal has earned regional honors from TASSP. Crockett Middle School Assistant Principal Amber Godby was named the Region 18 Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year for the 2025-26 school year, demonstrating the strength of campus leadership across PBTISD.
“Having PBTISD assistant principals recognized at the regional level in consecutive years speaks to the quality of leaders serving our students and supporting our teachers,” Acting Superintendent Chris Henson said. “Mr. Phillips understands that leadership is about service. He cares about students, supports his colleagues and continues to challenge himself to grow. We are proud of William and excited to see his leadership recognized across Region 18.”
The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals represents secondary-level school administrators across Texas and annually recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals for their leadership and service to public education.
Phillips will represent Region 18 through the TASSP recognition program as he continues serving the students, staff and families of Pecos High School. He will be formally recognized during the Jostens Night of the Stars Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the TASSP Summer Workshop in June 2027.
