Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD is proud to announce that Austin Elementary School has been named a 2026 School Transforming Learning (STL) campus by the N2 Learning Principals’ Institute, a distinction recognizing campuses that are creating innovative learning environments and making exceptional strides in transforming education for students.
The Schools Transforming Learning designation was established during the 2016-2017 school year as part of the Principals’ Institute network, which is now in its 15th year. The designation honors campuses led by current or former Principals’ Institute participants who are demonstrating impactful transformation in classrooms and across campus culture. Since 2017, more than 90 campuses statewide have earned the distinguished STL designation.
The recognition highlights Austin Elementary’s commitment to providing innovative learning opportunities, fostering student engagement, and creating a campus culture centered on growth, collaboration, and student success.
“This recognition is a reflection of the incredible work happening every day at Austin Elementary,” said Acting Superintendent Chris Henson. “Our teachers, staff, administrators, and students continue to create learning experiences that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and student growth. We are proud to see Austin Elementary recognized as a campus helping lead transformational learning in Texas.”
Austin Elementary Principal Alicia Mitchell said the recognition reflects the dedication and shared vision of the entire campus community.
“At Austin Elementary, we believe every child deserves learning experiences that challenge, inspire, and empower them to grow,” Mitchell said. “This designation reflects the passion and commitment of our staff, the support of our families, and the hard work of our students. We are honored to be recognized for the transformational learning happening on our campus and excited to continue building opportunities that help every student succeed.”
Schools earning the STL designation serve as models for transformational learning and may participate in virtual campus tours designed to encourage collaboration and inspire other schools both within and outside of the Principals’ Institute network.
The designation further highlights PBTISD’s continued focus on innovative instruction, student-centered learning environments, and preparing students for success through engaging and forward-thinking educational practices.
