PBTISD is honored to announce the following students have been recognized as the Class of 2025 Top 10%. Congratulations to the valedictorian, Joshua Contreras, and the salutatorian, Ryan Mendoza. Congratulations to Charles Viray, Alexsandra Navarrete, Carmela Tapac, Diane Paris, Sandra Corona, Peter Juarez, Rylie Dominguez, Isaiah Vasquez, Ayhner Elpedez, Dustin Morales, Tatyana Herrera, Rhianna Granado, Gizel Acosta, Avril Ybarra, Patrick Celedon and Jetzabel Ruiz.
Valedictorian Joshua Contreras plans to pursue excellence by setting clear goals, staying disciplined and always being open to learning and growth. Contreras plans to attend Texas Tech University. By the time of graduation, Contreras will be a certified CNA and have his Associate's Degree in General Studies from Odessa College.
“Being named Valedictorian means more than just earning high grades—it’s a reflection of years of dedication, persistence, and support from the people around me,” Contreras said.
Involved in multiple extracurricular activities, Contreras competed in UIL, Business Professionals of America and served as National Honor Society president, to name a few. “I’ve grown not just through academics, but through the relationships I’ve built with teachers, friends, and classmates who challenged and supported me along the way,” Contreras said. He learned the value of hard work, the importance of staying true to yourself and the power of perseverance. Outside of school, Contreras enjoys spending time with his family, playing video with friends, sleeping and being on his phone.
Salutatorian Ryan Mendoza plans on obtaining his Bachelor of Science in biology at Texas State University. He plans on going to medical school in hopes of becoming a dermatologist.
“Being named salutatorian means the world to me. I always wanted to be in the top two because it is such a high achievement that goes to show all my hard work, sweat and tears were all worth it,” Mendoza said.
From being a Mighty Eagle Band member to becoming a certified CNA, Mendoza is heavily involved in extracurriculars. His experiences shaped him personally and academically as he faced challenges back to back. He learned to manage his time as he dealt with high school and dual credit through Odessa College. “I had to be determined and focused to not fall behind,” Mendoza said. Aside from being an academic weapon, Mendoza enjoys listening to music, playing video games, running, and hanging out with friends.
