teacher assisting student

At PBTISD, we are committed to academic excellence by providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum that fosters student engagement and achievement. Through effective instructional practices and a team of highly qualified educators, we create safe, nurturing environments where all students can thrive. Our focus on rigorous academics, innovation, and support ensures that every learner is empowered to reach their full potential.

Reading and Writing

Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are all essential components of early literacy development, working together to build a strong foundation for learning. In our free Pre-K 4 program, students begin their reading journey with a focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, and reading comprehension, setting the stage for future academic success.

Math

Mathematics strengthens mental discipline, fostering logical reasoning and critical thinking skills. Beyond numbers, a strong foundation in math enhances understanding across various subjects, including science, social studies, music, and art, making it an essential tool for academic success.

Science

Science nurtures a child’s natural curiosity, encouraging wonder, exploration, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. Through hands-on inquiry, students discover that scientific discovery is for everyone, empowering them to ask questions, seek answers, and think critically. PBTISD students participate in STEM as early as Pre-K.

Social Studies

Social studies bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to become responsible citizens. In an increasingly interconnected society, it prepares them to engage with diverse cultures and communities, fostering understanding and global awareness.

Emphasis on Early Literacy and Math

Early literacy and math are foundational skills that develop during early childhood and are closely connected. These skills are essential for early academic success and serve as strong predictors of long-term achievement. Nurturing a love for reading is one of the most powerful ways to inspire a passion for learning, empowering students with the literacy skills needed to shape their futures and reach their full potential.

Bilingual/ESL

Our Bilingual Education program supports students in becoming proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English while strengthening skills in both English and Spanish. Kindergarten and first-grade students receive instruction primarily in Spanish to build literacy in their native language, with a gradual transition to English instruction. Our bilingual teachers are fluent in both languages and specially trained to make content accessible, ensuring students develop strong academic and language skills as they progress toward English proficiency.

Career and Technical Education

PBTISD offers a robust Career and Technical Education (CTE) program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in a variety of high-demand industries. Open to all students enrolled in PBTISD secondary schools, these programs provide hands-on learning experiences, industry certifications, and pathways to both college and career readiness. Discover how our CTE programs can help students explore their interests, develop specialized skills, and prepare for successful futures in today’s dynamic workforce.

Dual Credit

PBTISD offers Dual Credit courses in partnership with Odessa College. PHS Students can save money and earn college credit at PBTISD. Yearly, at least 10% of PHS students graduate with an Associate Deg from Odessa College before graduating high School! For more information on Dual Credit at PHS, please contact Jerra Villescas.

Gifted and Talented

At PBTISD, we believe every child should have access to the resources and support needed to reach their full potential. Our GT program provides specialized instruction tailored to the academic, social, and emotional needs of students identified for gifted services, ensuring they are challenged and supported in their learning journey. GT is offered to students from 1st grade to 5th grade. If you are interested in having your student tested for GT, please contact the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Samuel Wyatt.

Instructional Technology

Technology is an essential component of modern education, transforming teaching and learning by enhancing collaboration, engagement, and support. While its applications vary, the core purpose of instructional technology remains the same—to create dynamic and effective learning experiences that empower students for success. At PBTISD, every student receives their own device. Elementary students devices remain on campus, but secondary students get to take their devices home!

Special Education

We promote successful learning for all students who are eligible for Special Education services through effective instructional level interventions, access to the general grade level curriculum, and experience with appropriate life and career skills. Through these efforts, the department strives to empower students to reach their full potential, foster a supportive learning environment, and promote inclusivity and equity in education.

Pre-K 4

PBTISD’s Pre-K 4 Program is free for all eligible students, providing a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Aligned with TEA curriculum, our program emphasizes mindfulness, social-emotional development, and leadership skills, ensuring students are prepared for academic success. Through play, structured lessons, and hands-on experiences, children develop essential skills in language and literacy, math, science, and social-emotional growth. A study by Raise Your Hand Texas found that children who attend preschool are 54% more likely to be kindergarten-ready. All Pre-K students must be 4 years old on or before September 1 of the enrollment year. Give your child a strong start with PBTISD’s high-quality early education programs!
