welcome chantel hluchan as pecos high school principal

Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD is excited to announce Chantel Hluchan's hiring as the new principal of Pecos High School. With over 30 years of experience in education and a deep-rooted commitment to student success, Hluchan brings a dynamic leadership style and a heart for transformation to her new role.

Hluchan began her career as a 7th-grade life science teacher in her hometown, where she discovered a passion for guiding young learners. Her path soon took a unique turn when she accepted a position teaching incarcerated individuals at a correctional facility, helping them earn their GEDs and build new futures.

That experience became a pivotal moment for Hluchan. “My understanding of long-term consequences motivated me to take action and work towards making a positive impact before students end up in prison,” she said. With that mission in mind, she earned a master’s degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M and transitioned into the role of school counselor. She later became an assistant principal, expanding her impact on both students and staff.

“I’m thrilled to become an Eagle and a member of the Pecos High School Family,” Hluchan said. “PHS has a strong legacy, and I’m excited to build on it by supporting our teachers, connecting with our students, and partnering with families to help every student succeed.”

Superintendent Brent Jaco commends Hluchan’s appointment, citing her unique background, values, and student-centered mindset as a perfect match for PBTISD's vision.

“Chantel Hluchan embodies the spirit of PBTISD—compassionate, driven, and committed to making a difference,” Jaco said. “Her experience working across diverse educational settings will serve our high school well. We are confident she will be a powerful advocate for our students, families, and faculty.”

As principal of Pecos High School, Hluchan will lead a campus undergoing significant growth and transformation. Her leadership arrives at a time when the district is focused on preparing students not just for graduation but also for life, college, careers, and beyond.

PBTISD looks forward to welcoming Mrs. Hluchan to the district and officially introducing her to the community at the start of the 2025–2026 school year.
