October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time to acknowledge that bullying has devastating effects on children and families such as school avoidance, loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety and depression.
National Stop Bullying Day is on Wednesday, October 8. PBTISD encourages students, parents, and staff across the district to show their stance against bullying by wearing blue.
Bullying can occur in multiple ways. It can be verbal, physical, or via digital sources.
Physical or Verbal
Bullying often includes teasing, talking about hurting someone, spreading rumors, leaving kids out on purpose or attacking someone by hitting them or yelling at them.
Cyberbullying
Can occur online or through text messages or emails. It includes posting rumors on sites like Facebook, sharing embarrassing pictures or videos, and making fake profiles or websites.
Stop Bullying on the Spot
There are simple steps adults can take to stop bullying on the spot and keep kids safe. Here are a few do’s to prevent bullying: Intervene immediately. It is okay to get another adult to help.
