Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD proudly announces that Richard Cole, Director of Fine Arts, is marching today in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, as part of the prestigious Saluting America’s Band Directors project. Cole joins 350 band directors from across the nation in the New Year’s Day parade, one of the most recognized celebrations of music and tradition in the world!

The national ensemble honors music educators who dedicate their careers to service, mentorship, and musical excellence. Participants are selected through a competitive application process led by the Michael D. Sewell Memorial Foundation, which coordinates the Saluting America’s Band Directors initiative.

“Band directors are often some of the most influential and inspiring educators a student will encounter,” said Dr. Dan Ross, project coordinator and longtime school administrator. “This event is designed to salute band directors for their years of service, dedication, and the life lessons they instill in their students.”

As part of this honor, Cole marches alongside directors from across the country and participates in clinics, professional development experiences, and collaborative performances designed to strengthen instructional practices and artistic leadership.

“This opportunity is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Cole said. “I am honored to represent Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD, our students, and our community on a national stage.”

The Saluting America’s Band Directors ensemble performs for millions of viewers worldwide during the 137th Tournament of Roses Parade, themed “Celebrating the World of Music.”

“Richard Cole’s leadership continues to elevate our fine arts programs and expand opportunities for students across the district,” said Jaco. “Seeing him represent music educators nationwide today is very exciting for PBTISD and highlights the impact strong fine arts programs have on student growth.”

The parade can be viewed from any major TV Network (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.) starting at 10 AM. Mr. Cole will be marching alongside float #67 in the front row! For more information about the Saluting America’s Band Directors project, visit BandDirectorSalute.org.
