Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD is proud to announce that Crockett Middle School Principal David Credille has been named the Region 18 Middle School Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
The recognition honors outstanding secondary school administrators for their leadership, service to students and contributions to their school communities. For PBTISD, Credille’s recognition represents six years of transformational leadership that has helped reshape Crockett Middle School academically and culturally.
Credille has 33 years of experience in public education as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. Since joining PBTISD and taking the helm at Crockett Middle School, Credille has led a campus transformation focused on academic achievement, school culture, strong relationships and developing leadership among staff.
Under Credille’s leadership, Crockett has progressed from an F accountability rating to a C, exited school improvement status, earned three Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School recognitions and was designated a Texas School to Watch through the Schools to Watch program with the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.
“Mr. Credille’s leadership at Crockett Middle School is an example of what can happen when you establish a vision, build a strong team and remain focused on doing what is best for students,” Acting Superintendent Chris Henson said. “The transformation at Crockett did not happen overnight. It has taken years of hard work, consistency and a willingness to continually improve. Mr. Credille and his team have built a culture where students and staff believe they can succeed, and this recognition is well deserved.”
Credille said the Region 18 honor belongs as much to the Crockett community as it does to him.
“I am truly humbled and honored by this recognition. However, I want to be clear: this award is a reflection of the incredible community we have built together at Crockett,” Credille said. “None of this would have been possible without the people who shaped me along the way. I am forever grateful to my grandparents, who raised me with love and strength, and to the educators who invested in me during my own formative years. I am equally thankful for the coworkers, mentors and colleagues who have guided and inspired me throughout my career.”
Credille said the relationships he has developed with the Crockett community remain at the center of his work.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the staff, students and families of Crockett for placing your trust in me and allowing me to serve alongside you each day,” Credille said. “You have entrusted me with your most precious resource, your children, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. It is the greatest privilege of my professional life to serve this community, and I look forward to continuing that work in the years to come.”
Beyond accountability results and statewide recognition, Crockett has demonstrated continued progress in several measures under Credille’s leadership. The campus has achieved an 80% teacher retention rate, 90% core subject certification rate, 48% ESL-certified teaching staff and a 94% student attendance rate, representing a four-percentage-point improvement following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Credille has also led the implementation of district initiatives focused on safety, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH), professional learning communities (PLC) and the Fundamental 5. His focus on developing other leaders has included building leadership capacity through PLCs and mentoring campus administrators.
His own continued professional development has included mentorship through the Holdsworth leadership program and completion of the N2Learning Principal Institute. Credille has also shared Crockett’s work with other educators, including presenting at the Middle School Matters Symposium for TASSP. Crockett is currently pursuing designation as a Solution Tree PLC Model School.
Together, the recognitions highlight the district’s focus on developing strong campus leadership and creating schools where students and educators have opportunities to grow and succeed.
The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals represents secondary school administrators across Texas and annually recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals for their leadership and service to public education. Mr. Credille will be formally recognized during the Jostens Night of the Stars Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the TASSP Summer Workshop in June 2027.
